We are Kennel Club Accredited Breeders with an Accolade of Excellence, offering help and advice to anyone considering/looking for a GWP. Please remember it is desperately important to buy from fully health tested parents, i.e. parents who have been heart tested by echo-cardiogram for DCM, parents who have been hip scored and parents who have been tested for vWD. You must also be aware buying a cross breed of any type does NOT exclude any puppy from "health issue's". There are still serious health issues within "mongrels" and buying a cross breed gives you no guarantee of the health status of your puppy as it is unlikely that any health checks will have been carried out. GWP's are hard hunting dogs with a strong will and any reputable breeder will be prepared to give you life long help and advice on training or indeed any aspect of life with your GWP. Therefore if you are thinking of buying a GWP make sure you contact either the GWP Club, the Kennel Club or visit any reputable breeder who will be only too happy to help and advise you on acquiring a pedigree puppy. German Wirehaired Pointer Puppies - we are an established breeder of GWP's for over 35 years. Reputable breeders of GWP's undertake health tests on both parents of their puppies - minimum health checks are hips x-rayed, elbows x-rayed, vWD DNA test, echo scan for DCM. Please be aware that GWP's have these conditions so reputable breeders are doing their best to breed away from un-healthy lines. Therefore pls ask to see health test results from the parents of any puppies you go to visit - no health checks then pls walk away as it's the very least reputable breeders do. The old comment "my vet has checked the bitch" and "I've never had that problem in my lines" are not good enough. GWP's can be hard hunting gundogs, capable of self hunting and killing vermin if correct training is not undertaken - please ensure that breeders are willing and able to help you with the necessary training. They can be strong willed, stubborn, hard running - they are not just a pretty face and they are certainly not an easy breed to own/train. Please note that not all GWP's have correct wiry coats or beards and this also applies to cross breeds. Cross breeds are just that - you do not get the best of both breeds - you are just as likely to get the worse of both breeds both in character and health. If it's a GWP you are looking for then pls go for a pure bred GWP and not a cross breed. If you are looking for a GWP puppy then pls feel free to contact the German Wirehaired Pointer Club who will be able to direct you to the recognised breeders within the breed club or contact myself as I am more than happy to talk about our lovely breed and offer free advice at any time. This breed was introduced formally in the mid 1970's and our very first GWP was one from the second UK litter bred - therefore we have a lot of experience with this breed.   More>>
