We are extremely proud and excited to announce that we are expecting a litter of North American Retrievers, otherwise known as Double Doodles,(F1b Labradoodle x F1 Goldendoodle) due the second week of February. This is a cross that is becoming increasingly popular in America, and was developed in order to produce a dog which encompasses the best characteristics of it's foundation breeds, the Labradoodle and the Goldendoodle.
Although the qualities of Labradoodles and Goldendoodles are similar, there are some differences between them in temperament. Labradoodles, retaining a personality quality common in Labradors, tend to have a somewhat higher drive. Goldendoodles, retaining a quality often found in Golden Retrievers, are often very gregarious. For years service organizations have intentionally crossed Labrador Retrievers and Golden Retrievers in order to produce friendly, gregarious dogs that have enough drive for service work, so it is logical that Doodle Breeders would do the same. The same combination of traits that results in a tractable, friendly, trainable dog for service also results in a personality perfect for a family companion.
So part of the reasoning for a Labradoodle X Goldendoodle cross has to do with producing a particular temperament. The other reason is to produce low-non shedding coats, and overall, the few breeders that are producing this hybrid have found that the desired types of temperament, coat quality, and conformation are present in the majority of first generation (Labradoodle X Goldendoodle) North American Retrievers.
The name 'North American Retriever' was coined by Helene Roussi of Westwood Labradoodles and Goldendoodles in the USA, and the first litter of North American Retrievers (abbreviated NAR) was produced by Lincoln Manor Labradoodles (USA) in late 2006.
Now we have brought this exciting development in Doodle breeding to the UK, and are expecting one of the first litters of this new Doodle breed to be born in the UK. Puppies are due in February and we are extremely excited to see the litter born.
The dam is a superb fleece coated Chocolate F1b Labradoodle with a wonderful, happy, friendly temperament, and the sire is our stunning Goldendoodle, who has a fabulous gentle nature matched only by his amazing good looks (pictured below as a puppy ).
Puppies will be bought up in our family home, they will have access to a seperate toilet area from the beginning which helps massively with toilet training. They will be very well socialised in our busy family home with all the usual household comings and goings, and will have plenty of contact with other dogs, cats, guinea pigs and rabbits, and so will leave having had a good foundation on which to build upon. They will be fed on high quality food (Royal Canin Maxi Babydog), regularly wormed with panacur and also be vet checked, have 4 weeks insurance from Pet Plan, a puppy pack including Royal Canin vouchers, toys, a blanket with mum and littermates' scent to help them with the transition to their new homes, and also a lifetime of breeder support if required.
Please contact me to register an interest, and please be aware that I will require a lot of information from you in order to ascertain that our puppies are going to the most suitable homes. Puppies will NOT be homed on a first come first served basis, but will be placed in homes where there needs are going to be best met. Both parents are big dogs and so pups are likely to make large dogs too. Priced from £850. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions.
